The PostgreSQL project has released the first beta of the upcoming PostgreSQL version 9.5. As of last Thursday, the new version is available for download along with new minor releases for the active versions 9.1 to 9.4. At the same time the final version of 9.0 was released, and so has reached its "End Of Life".
The PostgreSQL developers urge all users to test 9.5 for potential bugs and performance problems so that they can be fixed before 9.5 is officially released later this year.
New features include:
New JSONB Operators
GROUPING SETS, CUBE and ROLLUP
FOREIGN IMPORT SCHEMA
ALTER TABLE SET (UN) LOGGED
BRIN (Block Range) Index
Index-only scans to GiST indexes
Parallel VACUUM with vacuumdb
pg_rewind for failover and failback in Cluster Setup
Keep an eye on our blog in the coming weeks, as we present some of 9.5's new features.
credativ has supported the development of 9.5 with patches and bug reports. Just as before, the Debian packages were created by us for last week's release, distributed over apt.postgresql.org, and prepared for the update channels of Debian.
